What to do in Zimbabwe the week of July 11,2023

FUN FACT: It’s snowing in parts of Zimbabwe today. The overnight low in Harare was 3 degrees celcius.

The launch of our weekly newsletter coincides with the death of the founder of ZAOGA pentecostal church founder Dr. Ezekiel Guti at the age of 100. He was one of the first Indigenous church founders in Zimbabwe and led the ministry for over 63 years around the world.

We can only hope to leave a legacy of strengthening Zimbabwean pride like he did.

In light of that, our travel tip of the week will be about how to find your prefered place of worship in Zimbabwe.

Travel Tips

As a student athlete, I always used to look for a church to attend when we were on road trips. Google was not as robust as it is now, but I could always count on the state office to know the locations of the different churches.

Zimbabwe today is no different. For traditional churches the national office will connect you to the local assemblies around the country. For the pentecostal churches that have only one assembly, I would recommend looking on their Facebook page for local contact details.

Facebook, Instagram and whatsapp are more broadly used as they have more economical bundle pages, compared to standalone websites. If you don’t have them downloaded, I recommend you do, prior to arriving in Zimbabwe. You should get a local sim card (phone number) at the airport on arrival for as little as $1, as international roaming packages often do not include Zimbabwe.

Ideally, you have a dual sim phone, as most banking and other applications require 2 step verification. By having your home cellphone line active, but off mobile data, you can use one handset while in the country.
