Travel tips: How to tell someone where you are
Google maps is pretty accurate in Zimbabwe, if someone sends you a location from the STREET in FRONT of their house, not from inside the house. I found this to be true, when I got lost within 200 metres of several houses. It would get within the block, but would direct us to the street behind the house were looking for, or next door. You can send someone your location from Whatsapp as an attachment. You can choose to send the live location for up to an hour, which is helpful if you are moving and they are following you. Or you can send a static location for them to that doesn’t expire.
Funny enough, we arrived at one location and it had a durawall (high gate surrounding the property), and they told us there was no guard dog, so we could go ahead and open the gate and come in. I could hear barking from inside of the gate, and for some reason we still decided to try to open the gate. The dogs inside the gate were just getting more and more aggressive, until we called again and found out it was the gate next door. Wrong colour.
The use of guard dogs in Zimbabwe is very common in both areas with fenced yards and without fenced yards. Its important to remind children that not all dogs are waiting for them to pet them.
