Driving Engagement: Men’s Health and Business Dialogue

Over the years I’ve organized conferences, workshops and events with topics ranging from finance to Jesus. I have put together groups trips from five star to backyard events. I had the privilege of curating executive level small group meetings and large lecture style gatherings. The purposes may have been to advance different types of agendas, but the heart of the matter was the same, “to drive engagement, connection and buy-in.” This conference no different, expect the engagement, connection and buy-in benefits more than the attendees, it has the ability to impact families, communities and the entire SADC region.

The Men’s Health Conference, was born of the need to create a safe space for open dialogue, learning and connection amonst men in the SADC region. Improving health outcomes amongst men, is a key driver as one cannot enjoy their wealth without good health. Mental health, not to be excluded. But, to also create a sharing of ideas and business knowledge amongst peers who aren’t necessarily competitors.

Our hope at this conference, September 29 to October 2nd at Choben National Park in Botswana, as explained by Jibraan Osman, from Syner-matics is to create place where not only opportunities for business connections can take place, but opportunities for men to have the tough conversations that can shape generations, supported by professionals. It’s time to end the stigma around success that we often see portrayed in Africa and put a name to it.

There are often stories in the African context about how success can lead people to not be able to sleep in their own houses, or with their own wives and how it can lead to dysfunctional families. When one finds themselves successful, they can also find themselves feeling increasily isolated in deeply personal areas of their lives, with no one to talk to. To make it worse, they might find themselves or feel themselves to be targets of witchcraft due to feelings of unease that might settle in.

Let’s get together, create opportunities to do business across the region, and while also building stronger leaders and families.
